An upsurge in fighting between Armenia and Azerbaijan has killed 155 infantrymen on both sides since Tuesday morning. Neighboring countries, at the crossroads of Asia and Europe, are long-standing adversaries in a standoff over the breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh region. The mountainous region is a component of Azerbaijan has still been under the control of Armenian-backed ethnic forces since the end of a separatist war in 1994. with a peace agreement negotiated through Russia, which sent 2,000 peacekeepers to the region. The fighting that erupted on Tuesday is the largest outbreak of hostilities in nearly two years.
