The annual Singapore Food Festival is regularly a bustling event with hungry diners looking for new dishes, but this year the celebrations are virtual.
Considering the COVID-19 stage and the rules on estrangement, the Singapore Food Festival 2020 brings the festivities to your doorstep.
It will take place during the last two weekends of August, and gourmets will be able to place their orders with indexed buyers in Shopee from August 14 to September 13. The amount of food to be held will vary depending on the daily operating capacity of the restaurant.
This year, 25 food and beverage vendors take part in the 27th edition of the festival, adding those of Candlenut, Michelin star and Cheryl Koh’s Pie.
Although the maximum number of dishes are able to be consumed, some that might not do so would also require the physical participation of the guests. These come with the Damn Easy Hokkien Mee at Slake Restaurant. Slake’s chef, Tan Ming Huang, said the dish can also be prepared through anyone “regardless of their background or culinary skills.”
To be honest, they even pre-baked the noodles to get a smart amount of wok hei flavor, and since the ingredients are also rated with a number series, it turned it into a delicious 10-minute lunch for two.
Unlike previous years, all the master classes of the wonderful chefs will be offered free of charge, and participants can decide to buy kits of items in advance if they decide to cook together with the chefs.
Learn a few tricks from Dave Pynt from Burnt Ends, a Michelin-starred restaurant, or even take a Nutmeg and Clove lesson on how to make your own cocktails.
The Singapore Tourism Board has indicated that some master classes will also provide spaces for internal interactions, but will be subject to Covid-19 security control measures when they take place.
If you like heritage, virtual tours of Tanjong Pagar, Chinatown, Katong and Joo Chiat will be organized through actor Chua Enlai to allow participants to “discover stories of the area’s popular restaurants (and) the stories of their traditional food businesses.” There will be a limited number of spaces for physical visits.
When it comes to products, consumers can purchase parts such as Uniqlo’s limited edition yarns and Singapore Brewerkz Brewery’s signature beer flavors.
