Ex-European Commission President urges West, Russia to rebuild dialogue

BAKU, October 27 (BelTA) – Former European Commission President Romano Prodi called on the West and Russia to reconstruct the discussion while speaking via video link at the Eurasian Economic Forum in Baku, BelTA has learned.

“We are going through a very complicated time, we have hostages from the stage. First there was the COVID-19 pandemic, then the unrest in the context of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine. possible, because everyone is suffering,” Romano Prodi said.

“I think peace is our main goal. And we have to get there,” he said.

“We are absolutely alienated from each other. We want to fundamentally reconsider what has happened recently. We will have to rebuild the foundations and probabilities of our dialogue, taking into account our differences and respecting the law. Of course, each formula has its own quirks, however, I don’t think any of them are made from our brains to prove the other right. We have to come together despite all our differences and we have to keep this in the brain all the time. ” the EU politician said.

The Eurasian Economic Forum, which was held in Verona, Italy for 14 years, moved to Baku this year. The 15th edition of the forum will be held in the capital of Azerbaijan on October 27 and 28. This occasion brings together politicians, experts, diplomats, business leaders and news insiders from West and East. The forum was held in Italy even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, today’s geopolitical realities have forced organizers to replace the classic forum venue.

Forum participants are in a position to speak on a wide variety of practical problems in the field of economics and finance, health, environment, energy and technological inventions in Greater Eurasia. The theme of this year’s forum will be “Eurasia on the Road to a New Geopolitical, Social and Economic Order: Transition to a New People-Centered Economy”. On the first day of the forum, participants will talk about the challenges of global power, European energy security, the role of business in global geopolitics, and the creation of a cooperative economy from the Atlantic to the Pacific. On the last day of the forum, discussions will focus on the cadres of the monetary sector in the face of new geopolitical challenges, the progression of maritime transport and infrastructure as a condition for the modernization of the virtual economy and territorial planning, as well as the commercial revolution and the formation of the long-term economy in Greater Eurasia.

The occasion is organized through the non-profit organization Conoscere Eurasia Association (Italy), the Roscongress Foundation, the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum with the Ministry of Economy of Azerbaijan.
