The random coronavirus will resume at Canada’s 4 largest airports starting next week.

The government had suspended its random verification requirement on June 11 due to congestion at airports until it implemented its program at some retail outlets and check provider pharmacies.

Now, the random COVID-19 program will resume on Tuesday, July 19 for fully vaccinated travelers arriving in Canada by air in Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal and Toronto.

Testing for all travelers, regardless of vaccination status, will be conducted outdoors at airports, either through an in-person appointment at selected services and pharmacies or through a virtual appointment for self-monitoring.

Partially vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers, unless exempt, will continue to be tested on the first and eighth days of their 14-day quarantine.

Travelers selected for mandatory random verification will receive an email notification within 15 minutes of the completion of their customs declaration, with information to set up their verification with a verification provider in their area.

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) adds that “unvaccinated travelers can perform their checks through a virtual appointment or an in-person appointment with the check provider at their store or at certain pharmacies while meeting their quarantine requirements. “

Travelers who test positive will be required to self-isolate and comply with Canada’s mandatory quarantine requirement for 10 days. The federal 10-day segregation requirement takes precedence over provincial or territorial requirements, which are possibly shorter.

Canada uses knowledge of the verification program used for the “current point and import trends” of the virus into the country and the threat to Canadians.

The government is also using knowledge to count decisions on easing border measures.

Travelers to Vancouver and Toronto airports can save time with a new feature in the ArriveCAN app.

Travelers are requested to arrive at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Lester B International Airport. Pearson (YYZ) using the new optional “CBSA Advance Statement” at ArriveCAN.

Travelers to those two airports can file their customs and immigration return before arrival, the time they spend at the airport.

Currently, only travelers to YVR and YYZ Terminals 1 and 3 can use the new feature; will be present at other airports in Canada during the year.
