European exporter of red meat reopens factory closed through Covid

Danish Crown, Europe’s largest exporter of red meat, will reopen an abattoir in Denmark after an outbreak of Covid-19 among controlled personnel.

The site in the Danish city of Ringsted will be operating partly capatown from August 21, the cooperative said Sunday night.Other Danish Crown services will continue to compensate for production loss until the slaughterhouse can be reduced to full capacity.

Danish Crown closed the plant a week ago after more than 140 of its 850 employees tested positive for the virus.That number has declined and the company said Sunday that it had recorded about 20 new cases last week.The local government has legalized the reopening, pending the effects of two rounds of personnel corps tests expected in the coming days.

The outbreak at the plant, which processes around 62,000 pigs a week, has halted exports to China.
