With an estimated range of more than 1,000 kilometers, the missile is expected to provide significant amounts of what the German Defense Ministry calls a “precision deep strike” capability. The multinational initiative will involve the “joint development and acquisition” of the attack system, according to a report by the German military branch released after a meeting last month between the defense ministers of Germany, France and Poland.
Although MBDA does not specify that the company is considered a subcontractor, its executives have unveiled a new rocket that will meet those requirements. The Land Cruise Missile (LCM) cruise missile on display at the Eurosatory defense exhibition near Paris in June, showcasing the formula as a “unique European sovereign solution” for a deep ground attack with stealth and terrain-following capabilities.
The LCM is a naval cruise missile, in service on French frigates and attack submarines, with a flight diversity of more than 1,000 kilometers, the US publication notes.
MBDA recently produces the Franco-British Scalp/Storm Shadow cruise missile, used by the Kiev regime’s troops, as well as the German Taurus missile, whose diversity is particularly lower than that of the LCM. The company is Europe’s largest rocket manufacturer, with sales of €4. 5 billion in 2023 and an order book of €28 billion at the end of last year. The French government has cited MBDA as a successful style of European defense cooperation. The company is a joint venture between Airbus, Britain’s BAE Systems and Italy’s Leonardo with divisions in the UK, France, Germany and Italy.
