TESTING a Filipino’s vaccination prestige between the Philippines and the European Union is now easier, as the country is now connected to the EU Digital COVID Certificate (EUDCC) system.
This means that, as a result of the equivalence decision, the EU recognises the Philippines’ Covid-19 vaccination certificate and, at the same time, the country can now accept and recognise the EUDCC certificate in accordance with its own legal system.
Following discussions between the EU and the Philippines, the European Commission followed an Implementation Decision that technically recognises the latter’s VaxCertPH as regards the EUDCC.
From 29 July, when travelling between EU Member States, holders of the Philippine vaccination certificate can use it in the same situations as EUDCC holders. At the same time, travelers with EUDCC can now use it to check their vaccination prestige when entering the Philippines.
“The EU sees this as a vital step in ensuring the fast and safe movement and mobility of people,” said chargé d’affaires a. i. of the region. in the Philippines Dr. Ana Isabel Sánchez Ruiz. “We thank the Department of Information and Communications Technologies, the Department of Health and the Quarantine Office for painting the process, as well as the Departments of Foreign Affairs and Tourism for their support. “
The Philippines is the sixth ASEAN country to be recognized under the EUDCC system, as Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam had been included in the past.
Globally, the EU has followed equivalence decisions with forty-five Third World countries and territories on five continents, bringing the total to 75. Recent peak decisions were also followed on July 29, when Oman and Peru were also added.
Filipino travelers who have not yet been vaccinated with an EU-authorized vaccine still check which ones are accepted through the member state involved prior to their trip.
