EU and WHO deliver COVID-19 tests and medical supplies to Armenia ARMENPRESS Armenia News Agency

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 8, ARMENPRESS. The European Union and WHO passed more than one hundred oxygen concentrators, 20 electrocardiographs and 10,000 PCR tests for COVID-19 to the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia, the EU delegation in Armenia told Armenpress.

Supplies, acquired through WHO with EU support, will help develop detection capacity and help patients with serious COVID-19 diseases.

Oxygen concentrators are a noninvasive way to supply oxygen to patients hospitalized with COVID-19. This additional oxygen is the first essential step for the treatment of patients with low blood oxygen levels due to severe COVID-19.

Electrocardiograph physical care professionals pay attention and control a patient’s center for complications. ECGs are vital for patients treated in intensive care units.

The 10,000 tests delivered will enable timely detection, isolation and control of patients, which is vital for patient care and to contain the epidemic in the country. The tests are of a type included in WHO’s list of guaranteed quality sources and are capable of generating precise effects in just 75 minutes. This short solution time saves physical care personnel time and energy, helps decrease the likelihood of human error, and allows more tests consistent with the day to be consistent with the form.

The head of the European Union delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Andrea Wiktorin, WHO Representative in Armenia Egor Zaitsev, RA Deputy Minister of Health Lena Nanushyan were at the SncO Republican Humanitarian Aid Centre for equipment.

The EU ambassador and WHO representative passed the tests and apparatus to the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia as part of a broader assistance programme to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the country. Tests and equipment will be provided to the national laboratory and fitness facilities.

Context information

The EU and the WHO Regional Office for Europe have been actively supporting Armenia in its fight against the virus since the onset of the COVID-19 crisis. On 20 June, an expert organisation co-financed through WHO and the EU arrived in Armenia to accentuate the reaction in the country. On July 1, 10,000 PCR tests were delivered to strengthen testing capacity.

This is a component of the EU’s reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has recently affected more than 216 countries and territories. On 27 March 2020, the EU announced an assistance programme of EUR 30 million to help prevent, trip and respond to the COVID- 19 pandemic in six Eastern European and Caucasus countries, adding Armenia.

The budget is first used to meet immediate emergency needs, such as the acquisition of essential materials for fitness personnel, frontline staff and patients. In the longer term, aid will be used for the country’s ability to respond to public conditioning emergencies.
