An investigation through the UK Health Safety Agency found that the Immensa laboratory in central England had misdeclared around 39,000 tests negative when they tested positive between September 2 and October 12 last year.

“Throughout this investigation, we have thoroughly reviewed the arrangements in place to oversee personal laboratory contracts offering surge testing in this period,” said Richard Gleave, UKHSA director and principal investigator.
“We are of the opinion that there was no individual action NHS Test and Trace could have taken to prevent this error from falling into the personal laboratory. However, our report makes transparent recommendations to lessen the threat of incidents like this going down again. “
