Comments from the World Health Organization that the end of the pandemic is in sight deserve to be added to the desire of countries for their ability to live with the virus.
This was highlighted through the Ministry of Health, adding that Fiji continues to see a persistent decline in cases.
However, Permanent Secretary Dr. James Fong said that strengthening our ability to live with COVID also means maximum vigilance and maintaining the adoption of COVID protection measures throughout the community, when appropriate.
Dr. Fong says vaccination remains the only way to slow the spread of the virus and other vulnerable people in our communities.
He adds that the effect of vaccination is demonstrated in reducing hospitalization rates for serious conditions in all divisional hospitals.
The Permanent Secretary continues to echo the importance of vaccination and the need for eligible Fijians to receive their booster doses.
Recently, the ministry is aiming for an 80% recovery policy for other people over the age of 18 to eliminate the remaining public fitness measures.
Meanwhile, Fiji has recorded 19 new cases of COVID-19 since the ministry’s last update on the 8th of this month.
Of the 19 cases, six were from the Central Division and thirteen from the West.
