Egyptian Cabinet Legalizes 125 Unlicensed Churches

 

This brings to 2526 the total number of Christian places of worship and service buildings that have been legalized to date, cabinet spokesman Nader Saad said.

In 2016, Egypt’s parliament passed a long-awaited law regulating the structure and renovation of churches.

The committee to legalize the prestige of unlicensed churches established in 2017 through the prime minister.

The 10-member committee includes representatives of Christian sects, six government representatives from various ministries, representatives of the national security apparatus, the intelligence apparatus and the administrative oversight body.
