The MoU signed between the Minister of Local Development Hisham Amna and the Secretary General of UCLG, Pierre Elong Mbassi, in the presence of Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.
The rite of signature held on the sidelines of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm el-Sheikh.
The Africities event is held every three years in one of Africa’s five regions with the aim of selling local governance and decentralization to the living standards of African citizens.
Madbouly said Egypt will host the upcoming Africities summit, a component of strengthening cooperation and coordination on the African point according to the directives of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.
He added that such summits help efforts towards non-centralization and governments’ efforts to expand Africa.
The last Africities Summit held in Kenya from 17 to 21 May, under the theme “The role of Africa’s intermediary cities in the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda and the African Union’s Agenda 2063”.
