Cairo, May 31 (IANS) The Egyptian government has unveiled a new primary archaeological discovery of 250 sealed coffins containing mummies, 150 bronze statues of ancient gods and goddesses and antiquities in the Saqqara necropolis, south of the capital, Cairo.
An archaeological project running on the Bubastian cemetery domain has discovered a hiding place of bronze statues at the site that dates back to the past era of ancient Egypt, Xinhua news firm reported on Monday, mentioning Mostafa Waziri, secretary-general of the Supreme Court. “The deposit included 150 bronze statues of other sizes of gods and goddesses such as Anubis, Amunmeen, Osiris, Isis, Nefertum, Bastet, Hathor and various bronze vessels,” Waziri said.
The project also discovered 250 intact colored wooden coffins dating back to 500 BC. C. inside several funerary pits that added well-preserved mummies, as well as an organization of gilded wooden statues, painted wooden boxes and amulets, he added.
During the excavation of one of the wells, the project discovered a papyrus that writes verses from the Book of the Dead, Waziri said.
The Book of the Dead is an ancient Egyptian funerary text written on papyrus and used since the early New Kingdom (around 1550 BC). C. ) J. -C. ) around 50 BC.
It consists of a series of magical spells intended for the adventure of a deceased person through the Duat, or underworld, and into the afterlife and written by many priests during an era of approximately 1000 years.

The discovery was the fourth excavation of the site that began in April 2018.
The Egyptian project will begin paintings of the fifth excavation in September, Waziri added.
