CAIRO – Egypt reported 703 new cases of coronavirus on Friday, said the ministry of fitness, the lowest number since last May.
A total of 86,474 COVID-19 cases were reported and 4,188 deaths, 68 on Friday, the ministry said in a statement.
Egypt reopened resorts for foreign tourists on 1 July after tourism stopped in March as a component of measures to curb the coronavirus epidemic. But Egypt has not yet been a component of a “safe list” of countries for the resumption of non-essential countries for the European Union, which is reviewed every two weeks.
Tourism accounts for 5% of Egypt’s economic output, according to the government. Analysts estimate this figure by up to 15% if industry-like jobs are included. (Reporting through Mahmoud Mourad and Hesham Abdul Khalek written through Ulf Laessing; edited through Leslie Adler)
