Egypt, host of the summit, renews invitation to King Charles

Egypt on Tuesday renewed its invitation to King Charles III for next month’s COP27 climate summit after the British monarch’s plans to attend were reportedly cancelled through former Prime Minister Liz Truss.

“From our point of view in relation to His Majesty King Charles, this is an open invitation,” senior diplomat Mohamed Nasr said ahead of the 12-day UN assembly in Sharm el-Sheikh, which begins Nov. 6.

“He has been an advocate for climate action and a role model,” Nasr told reporters at an online news conference. “We still hope he can pull through. “

Nasr also said that, so far, more than 90 heads of state have shown they will attend the summit, which is tasked with accelerating carbon discounts and offering climate finance to emerging countries.

In early October, Buckingham Palace showed that Charles III would move to COP27 following reports that Truss had raised objections to his participation.

But Truss resigned as minister after just 44 days in power, replaced by fellow conservative Rishi Sunak.

Britain hosted last year’s COP26 climate convention in Glasgow, which saw projects to slow deforestation and methane emissions but deeply thwarted monetary support from poor countries.

Nasr said he hoped Sunak and other country leaders would keep their promises in Glasgow.

“We know that the UK and other countries are facing tough economic times, but we hope those tough times will lead to a reversal of promises made and kept,” he said.

Apparently, neither US President Joe Biden nor Chinese leader Xi Jinping have shown that they will come to COP27.

“We hope they will be there because either country is at the forefront of climate substitution and their cooperation and role have been instrumental in progress,” he said.

US media reported that Biden will attend.

Charles III assumed the throne following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who addressed the COP26 summit last year with the blessing of the Conservatives led by Truss’s predecessor, Boris Johnson.

Charles and his son William addressed the event.

Carlos III is a committed environmentalist, with a long career in the fight for conservation, organic agriculture and the fight against climate change.

Don’t accept it as true with him.

@Rodney – Who don’t you trust?King Carlos III, Mohamed Nasr or Rishi Sunak?

No, no, no. Truss forbade him to go. The monarch makes politics in the British constitution. Charles gets it. John ‘The Chin’ Kerry tried to meddle in this matter the other day, intending to cause trouble and interfere in our internal affairs. Don’t meddle in our business.
