In a statement, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry expressed its condolences and solidarity with the Iraqi government and people, wishing the wounded a recovery.
The ministry also affirmed Egypt’s and Iraq’s solidarity in the face of terrorism, stressing that such despicable acts will only strengthen Iraq’s insistence on defeating terrorism.
At least nine members of the Iraqi federal police were killed Sunday in an attack near Kirkuk in the north of the country, in one of the deadliest attacks in the country in recent months.
Two policemen were also wounded in the attack, he told AFP.
A bomb exploded near a truck in which the men were traveling, which followed through “a direct attack with small arms,” near the village of Chalal Al-Matar, said a federal police official, who attributed the attack to Islamic State, on condition of anonymity.
ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack.
