Egypt: 21 dead, 3 children, in canal bus crash

Twenty-one more people were killed and six injured after a bus crashed into a canal in northern Egypt.

In a statement, the fitness ministry said the twist of fate occurred in Dakahlia province, about a hundred kilometers northeast of the capital, Cairo.

Dr. Sherif Makeen, a fitness ministry official, said three young men were among the dead.

The province’s chief of police investigations said the driver may have lost the vehicle’s guide wheel.

According to Sky News Arabia, rescue groups are still searching for other people in the water.

Fatal road traffic injuries kill thousands of people each year in Egypt, which has a poor record of shipping protection.

Accidents and collisions are basically caused by speeding, bad roads or poor enforcement of traffic laws.

In July, a passenger bus crashed into a parked truck in the southern province of Minya, killing 23 others and injuring 30.

In October, a truck crashed into a minibus in Dakahlia, killing at least 10 people, the government said.
