SEE® (formerly Sealed Air) is committed to making our world a better position than the one we have. By focusing on definitively impacting the communities in which we live and work, we make this commitment a reality.

Project Scientist

Through the national non-profit Project Scientist, women receive the equipment to develop their creativity and create innovative answers to problems. In 2021, SEE sponsored a virtual summer camp for participants of the Science Project, which exposed women to the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) facets of a food packaging manufacturer.

Based on studies that have shown that underserved and unidentified women don’t get STEM opportunities that fit their talents and interests, Project Scientist was created to “change the worldview of who a scientist is and what they do. “

SEE’s sponsorship allowed 25 women, ages 7 to 12, from disadvantaged communities in Charlotte, North Carolina, where SEE is headquartered, to participate in a week-long virtual STEM lab on inventions in food production and delivery. Five of SEE’s food science painters explained their paintings and spoke to academics about the life cycle of food, from growing, producing and packaging to intake and nutrition. These types of immersive learning reports are designed to challenge and motivate women to resolve disorders while progressing in math and science.

Gathered in an instructor-led virtual classroom, the women conducted food-based science and engineering experiments, worked on similar math problems, and participated in virtual expeditions to some of SEE’s innovation and progress spaces. Virtual expeditions allow academics to believe in a professional STEM environment and meet and see women running in STEM-like workplaces.

Gastromotor

Already a supporter of Gastromotiva, a Brazil-based nonprofit that provides training in professional cooking, nutrition systems, and food education, when the pandemic hit, SEE provided the organization with more emergency assistance in 2021 to feed Brazilians during the COVID-19 crisis.

In an effort to help feed the most vulnerable in Brazil by the pandemic, Gastromotiva created a network of solidarity kitchens, through which current and former Gastromotiva fellows prepared food at home and sent it to nearby communities.

Goonj

Goonj, based in India and a project to provide crisis relief, humanitarian assistance and network development, enlisted SEE’s help in providing food rations and other essentials to families in need due to the pandemic. In 2021, in reaction to the worsening COVID-19 crisis in India, which has reached catastrophic levels, SEE provided further investments to assist in the supply and delivery of food, medical kits and other essential items.

RateShare

FareShare, a food redistribution charity network in the UK, tackles hunger and food waste by collecting surplus quality food that would otherwise go to landfills and redistribute it to charities and networks that turn it into meals. During the COVID-19 crisis, SEE supported FareShare’s efforts to deliver more food to frontline organizations, offering a lifeline to those most at risk.

Vaccination clinics

Supporting the well-being of its workers and fulfilling its long-standing commitment to serving the communities where services are located, SEE introduced COVID-19 vaccination clinics for workers and the general public 2021 and 2022 at its headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina. SEE has provided on-site vaccines for production workers at some of the company’s largest services in the United States.
