Ecuador’s President Lenlon Moreno on Wednesday praised the paintings of multilateral establishments to help his country cope with the monetary coup caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
He told the United Nations General Assembly that the assistance of organizations such as the International Monetary Fund is essential for emerging countries.
Ecuador and the IMF recently reached a staff-level agreement on a $6. 5 billion fund for 27 months for the country to expand its social assistance programmes.
Ecuador has been more financially affected than most Latin American countries, and the economy is expected to contract by 9% this year.
The country has reported more than 11,100 deaths from the virus.
During his speech, Moreno requested that any vaccine be patent-free.
It also pushes for wanting vulnerable spaces such as the Galapagos Islands, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that encouraged Charles Darwin.
Referring to a recent flotilla of 260 more commonly Chinese fishing vessels near the archipelago, he called on countries to report illegal fishing.
The fleet in foreign waters but close enough raises considerations about sharks, manta rays and other vulnerable species nearby.
