QUITO (AP) — Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso is visiting a U. S. hospital known for its cancer remedy for medical tests and will most likely be operated on there after being diagnosed with melanoma on his right eyelid, he said Tuesday, saying it would not be his presidential duty.
Lasso, a former banker and businessman who took in May last year, underwent surgery on July 29 to remove a carcinoma in his lower eyelid but will go ahead with additional tests on the recommendation of his doctor, he told reporters at a briefing before leaving for Houston on Tuesday night.

Lasso said he would go to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
“I feel great,” Lasso told reporters before leaving. “This is a challenge I want to address to prevent it from spreading in the future, in this case, all over my face. “
Lasso said he will most likely undergo additional eyelid surgery on Thursday.
This is the time when Lasso has traveled to the United States for physical problems. In June 2021, he underwent surgery for a cyst on his lower back.
The president also said that before his trip, he was able to put to a popular vote the subjects who were supposed to take a position next year.
