TACLOBAN CITY – The Ministry of Health (DOH) reported 27 new cases of coronavirus in Visayas, bringing the total number of infections in the region to 848.
On Tuesday, 604 LSIs from the metropolitan domain of Manila arrived in their respective locations in the region.
In northern Samar, the provincial government changed the gymnasium of the University of the East of the Philippines in the city of Catarman to a quarantine facility for the return of the ISLs where they would remain for 14 days under fitness protocols.
The municipalities of Lope de Vega, Lavezares, Gamay and Capul had asked the governor of Samar du Nord, Edwin Ongchuan, to maintain their LSIs at the provincial-made quarantine facility because they had already reached their maximum capacity.
“These cities have already maximized their isolation sets, while others have already reached an 80% usage rate. I hope the national government will heed our call,” said Rei Josiah Echano, provincial crisis threat relief officer.
The return of these LSIs to the regional component of the national government’s “Hatid Tulong” program.
Of the 27 new coVID-19 instances in Visayas, 23 are from Samar and 4 south of Leyte.
In Samar, the city of Paranas has the number of new instances of COVID-19 with 14, followed by the municipalities of Motiong (5); Basey, (2); and San Sebastian and Catbalogan City with each.
