East Ontario paramedics open drive-thu checkup at Canadian Tire Center

Some 30 Ontario paramedics set up a COVID-19 test center behind the wheel Saturday morning to alleviate Ottawa’s blocked examination system.

The driving service in the parking lot of the Canadian Tire Center in Kanata was a request from Health Ontario East, Renfrew’s head paramedic Mike Nolan said.

“This is a possibility that Ottawa will get through this,” he said.

The self-service service will run on Saturdays and Sundays and will close at 6 p. m. both days, other people will begin to be rejected at 5:30 p. m.

Reopen around nine o’clock on Sunday morning.

Nolan believes the driving branch will pass 1,200 tests a day.

Brian Smith, director of emergency and therapeutics at Queensway Carleton Hospital, one of the emerging partners, said he hoped the driving service would ease some of the tension at the evaluation centers. The hospital organized its own day trip. service in March.

“The most complicated component is human resources and patient registration,” he said. “It makes sense to have a pop-up window over the weekend. “

Shortly after noon on Saturday, a line of cars waiting, even though the pop-up had not been officially announced.

The driving service, which is reserved for others with symptoms of COVID-19, has 4 lanes with two tents in a row.

Those for testing should stay in their car.

At the first stop, they will be asked to present a fitness card and a form of identity with their address, preferably a driver’s license, so that the tests are recorded electronically and the effects are transmitted for follow-up.

At the stop, a paramedic will take a nasal sample.

Ottawa test centers at Brewer Arena, Moodie Drive and Heron Road have flooded in recent days. On Friday, Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson said he was expecting more sites at the municipal facility next week.

The CLC’s driving branch recruited service paramedics, stretching from Durham to the Quebec border.

In Renfrew County, driving verification sites, which operate in locations seven days a week, can check between one hundred and 150 more people on each line, Nolan said.

“All those paramedics have some kind of cell test. We’ve been doing this for months,” he said. This is an impressive collaboration of all the combined. “

In a meeting with Prime Minister Doug Ford on Friday, Watson said there will have to be a “pivot” in messaging to keep other people asymptomatic away from long queues.

“Everyone is being pushed to the limit and we’ve added four hours this week to Brewer, we still want more geographically dispersed facilities,” Watson told the newspaper after the meeting with the prime minister.

Watson is unwilling to disclose the proposed municipal services for use as test sites, as they are still being completed.

On May 25, Dr. Theresa Tam, Director of Public Health of Canada, praised renfrew’s Paramedic Service solution to help traffic jams in the detection system.

“This is a glorious example of the fitness care formula that combines to make sure there is no one left and highlights the vital role paramedics play in connecting communities to fitness facilities,” he said.
