Guernsey Waste advises islanders not to stop by the new green waste landfill early in the morning so they don’t have to queue.
Mont Cuet’s new facility, which opened earlier this month, opens at 10 a. m. m. de the morning, two hours later than the previous site.
In this way, the accumulation of residues from the previous day can be eliminated.
However, the new one has longer opening hours than the old Chouet HeadlandArray and adds a later final on Sunday afternoons.
Guernsey Waste said queues were reported on weekend mornings, due to cars arriving before the gates opened, and taking up to an hour to clear.
Households that returned later that day did not enjoy significant wait times.
Douglas Button, Guernsey’s Director of Sustainability and Waste Minimisation, said islanders were getting used to the new opening hours.
“It’s still very early. Some people are still getting used to the later opening hours,” he said.
“Since this is a major replacement of the old site, we expected some problems to arise at first. However, from our point of view, everything has gone quite smoothly and the feedback we have gotten from users of the site has been incredibly positive, which is very satisfying.
“We are confident that consumers will quickly get used to the schedules. For now, we’re just reminding everyone that if you arrive before 10 a. m. , you’re not going to be able to get there. m. , you may have to wait a bit.
“If you can wait a little later in the day, you’ll probably avoid standing in line. “
Unlike the muddy surroundings of the old site, the new facility features a concrete floor, seven parking spaces, a larger one for cars with trailers and another for reversing assistance and traffic flow.
However, some islanders have taken to social media to complain that the site is too small to serve the island and that having a specific caravan bay causes other bays to remain empty.
Button said fewer than one in 10 cars visiting the site received a trailer.
“Of the seven compartments, one is specially designed for trailers and can hold up to three at a time.
“We think that’s enough of a provision, but it’s evident that it’s still in its early stages and users are still getting used to how the new one works,” he said.
“We thank everyone for their patience, and if changes are needed in light of the experience gained in the first few weeks, we can do so once they have had time to adjust. “
Guernsey Waste has demonstrated that it has implemented plans to extend the site’s opening hours on Saturdays and Sundays until 6pm during the summer months.
The site is open lately from 10 a. m. to 6 p. m. m. de Monday through Friday and until four o’clock in the afternoon. On weekends and holidays, Liberation. On Thursdays it is closed.
