Belgium has issued code orange warnings for the Dutch provinces of Noord-Holland, Zuid-Holland and Zeeland due to the emergence of coronavirus cases.
The orange precautionary code means that Belgians who have visited the provinces will have to pass a check and quarantine at home for two weeks upon their return.
Last week, the Netherlands issued an Orange Warning Code for the Belgian province of Antwerp, recommending avoiding travel for the time being.
The proliferation of warnings has confused the situation at the border between the two countries, specifically in Baarle Nassau, on both sides of the border and whose citizens are now subject to other regulations depending on where they are.
Belgium, for example, requires the use of masks in stores, while the Netherlands does not.
Belgium, where the number of coronavirus tests is expanding to around 500 a day, has also issued a code red warning for parts of France, Spain, Britain, Bulgaria and Switzerland.
