DUBAI – The 2716-foot-tall Burj Khalifa in Dubai is illuminated to provide food to coronavirus-affected communities in the United Arab Emirates. Each of the tower’s 1.2 million lighting fixtures was sold for a donation of 10 dirhams, or $2.72, enough to buy a meal. As donations arrived, the tower’s lighting fixtures began to fill up and fundraising raised more than 1.2 million food to date. Dubai’s economy has been paralyzed by the coronavirus pandemic; the region relies heavily on tourism and transport. Many have lost their jobs or their income has been reduced. The fundraising is part of a crusade introduced through MBRGI, sponsored by Dubai leader and vice president of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum. The purpose is to fund 10 million food for families source of income during the Muslim fast month of Ramadan
