DOT Eyes pilot on COVID-19 saliva control for tourism assessment

MANILA, Philippines – The Ministry of Tourism (DOT) will soon launch a pilot on COVID-19 saliva control for tourist detection, Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat told senators Monday at a hearing on his department’s proposed 2021 budget.

DOT has begun to look for opportunities as effective as RT-PCR control but “more affordable”.

Puyat indicated the dominance that would be a component of pilot studies.

Saliva-based will involve collecting saliva samples from a patient.

The DOT will take over the pilot tests, according to Puyat.

Currently, dot is conducting a pilot study on the use of antigenic tests to detect coronavirus infections in the city of Baguio, which is one of the tourist sites that have reopened its doors.

In Baguio, city travelers won the antigenic and RT-PCRArray. Then the effects of the two were compared.

Senator Nancy Binay said DOT could use the Department of Health (DOH) to fill the pilot position.
