Dominican Republic Travel Guide

The Dominican Republic is known for its amazing beaches, colorful culture, and rich history. It is also noted for its music, dances, and delicious cuisine, which includes dishes such as plantains, rice, and beans, as well as types of seafood.

Getting around the Dominican Republic is relatively easy, with shuttle services available. In our experience, here are some of the most productive tactics for getting around:

The local currency in the Dominican Republic is the Dominican peso (DOP), abbreviated as RD$ or $ in local shops.

Tipping is expected regularly in the Dominican Republic, especially in the service sector. Many employees in the tourism industry rely on tips, which make up a significant portion of their income. So, it’s a smart idea to show your appreciation for smart service with a tip.

The official language of the Dominican Republic is Spanish. However, you will also find that many other people who work in the tourism industry, especially in popular tourist areas, speak English.

Try to learn some fundamental words in Spanish. Some keywords come with ‘hello’ (hello), ‘thank you’ (thank you), ‘please’ (please), and ‘how much does it cost?(How much does it cost?).

In some areas, especially in smaller cities and towns, locals may only speak limited English, if at all. In those cases, having a basic knowledge of Spanish can be very helpful.

The Dominican Republic enjoys a warm and sunny tropical climate year-round. On average, temperatures of around 80°F (27°C) can be expected.

Summer usually has higher temperatures, while winters are colder. So, pack some soft, comfortable clothes and get ready to enjoy the sun!

We believe that the most productive time to make a stopover in the Dominican Republic is during the winter months, from December to February. During this time, temperatures are a bit cooler and more comfortable, with less humidity and less chance of rain.

However, the shoulder seasons of April to June and November can also be a wonderful time to visit. These months will offer a balance of lower costs and fewer crowds while enjoying warm and pleasant weather.

Santo Domingo: As the capital of the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo is a colorful and historic destination. With its well-preserved colonial architecture, attractive museums, and colorful nightlife, this city is full of local history and fresh culture.

Puerto Plata: The jewel of the Dominican Republic’s north coast, Puerto Plata is a laid-back city. It is a paradise for sun and water sports lovers with its golden sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and picturesque landscapes.

Jarabacoa: Located in the mountains of the Cordillera Central, we believe Jarabacoa is the best for adventure seekers. With its striking natural beauty, waterfalls, rivers, and lush forests, Jarabacoa is ideal for hiking, rafting, and canyoning. The city also offers a variety of ecotourism experiences, ranging from visits to coffee plantations to bird-watching expeditions.
