LONDON, 12 August 2020 / PRNewswire / – Several airlines have been offering the Commonwealth of Dominica since the country reopened its borders to nationals on July 15. Since 7 August, Dominica also welcomes tourists. At a press conference on Monday, deputy border reopening coordinator and tourism director Colin Piper said more airlines would operate in Dominica from August 11. The total number of COVID-19 cases remains at 18 on the island without similar deaths.

According to Piper, Silver Airways will operate in the country on Thursday and Saturday from San Juan, and Air Antilles will fly from Barbados with a connection from St. Lucia to Dominica. Air Antilles will also serve as Point-A-Pitre in Dominica.

Mr Piper also added that “thirteen houses have received a COVID-19 certificate of approval.” It showed that two hotels approved for the Citizenship through Investment (CBI) program, Cabrits Resort and Spa Kempinski Dominica and Secret Bay, are already on the list. Piper explained that lately there are 415 COVID-certified rooms on the island, and soon there will be more.

Dominica’s emerging ecotourism sector continues to win prestigious awards. In December 2019, the five-star Cabrits Resort and Spa Kempinski Dominica won the “New Hotel of the Year” award as a component of the 2020 Caribbean Travel Awards. This year, the prestigious Travel and Leisure magazine named Secret Bay the hotel in the Caribbean, Bermuda and The Bahamas at the 2020 World’s Best Awards.

According to country protocols, all visitors entering Dominica must complete a fitness questionnaire and adopt a PCR verification within 3 days of arrival. Travelers must download a negative PCR result to obtain a physical fitness approval notice and send a copy to the Health Officer of the Port of Dominica upon arrival.
