DOH reports 3,147 new COVID cases, cites decrease in transmissions

The Department of Health (DOH) reported a decrease in COVID-19 transmissions with 3,147 new cases this week or a daily average of 450 cases.

This week’s daily average was also down 10% from cases reported from Dec. 19-25, the Health Ministry said, adding that of the new cases, only 40, or 1. 28%, were “severe” or “critical. “

For November to December 2023, the percentage of occupied intensive care unit (ICU) beds for COVID-19 cases remained low at only 16% at its highest, averaging at 12%, the DOH said

During the same period, the number of occupied non-ICU beds for COVID-19 cases was also low, at 19%, its highest level, and an average of 17%.

“Our data also shows a consistently low percentage of severe and critical cases among hospital admissions, currently at 11%,” the DOH said. “Our data shows the continuous low transmission and mild presentation of COVID-19 locally.”

The Department of Health noted that this can simply be attributed to Filipinos’ choice to adopt healthy behaviors and answer the call for multiple degrees of protection, such as wearing a mask when necessary, going to well-ventilated areas, and staying home when sick.

The DOH also objected to the public spreading a message about a new wave of COVID-19 in metro Manila, attributed to Dr. Ann S. Ruth Divinagracia of St. John’s Medical Center. Luke.

“There is no credible evidence or any official announcement from the health government to support the claim that COVID-19 cases are accumulating in the hospital in question,” he said.

He suggested the public rely on data from reliable resources such as the Ministry of Health and other official fitness bodies.

“Misinformation can contribute to unnecessary panic and fear. If the messages persist, criminal charges can be imposed,” he said.
