MANILA, Philippines – More than 16,000 people have recovered from coronavirus disease (COVID-19), while the total number of cases in the Philippines reached 189,000, the Ministry of Health (DOH) reported sunday.
The Department of Health also registered another 2,378 people with respiratory diseases, bringing the total number of cases to 189,601.
Of the new infections reported, 818 were from the Manila metropolitan area, 331 were from Region 4-A and 153 from Region 3.
In validating its figures, the DOH stated that it had discovered 26 duplicates that were removed from the total number of cases, adding nine recoveries.
Four cases in the past reported as cures have been validated as deceased and have already been included in the death count, DoH added.
The increase in the number of recoveries is due to doH “Oplan Recovery”, where it marks a patient as recovered after completing 14-day isolation from the time they showed COVID-19 symptoms or their samples were collected for analysis.
