MANILA, Philippines – More hospital beds for COVID-19 patients will be made available in the Manila metropolitan domain as the rate of coronavirus use declines, the Ministry of Health (DOH) said on Friday.
In addition to the Manila metropolitan area, the hospital usage rate at the time is Calabarzon at 59%, followed by Western Visayas with 55%, he added.
“We’ve noticed this downward trend in recent weeks,” he said at a media forum.
Vergeire emphasized, however, that this down-down movement in hospital use does not mean that the public is complacent.
Vergeire said doH frequently worked with public and personal hospitals to expand the case capacity of COVID-19.
Previously, a message from a medical student circulated on social media stating that hospitals are still at full capacity for others inflamed with the virus.
“We advise the public not to rely entirely on anecdotal data like this. Although possibly true, it’s just the reports and observations of a handful of other people and not a representative from the Philippines,” the fitness official said.
As of September 3, the Philippines had 228,403 COVID-19 samples, with 159,475 recoveries and 3,688 deaths.
