ALBUQUERQUE, N. M. – For the first time since COVID, the annual Doggie Dash and Dawdle kicked off Sunday morning at Balloon Fiesta Park.
The occasion was organized through the Humane Society of New Mexico and began with a one-mile trip for you and your four-legged friend.
“We have a ‘Barketplace,’ meaning with all our vendors, food trucks, beer garden. All the money goes to New Mexico cats and dogs who want a moment opportunity like Winona here,” said Madison Hatch, occasions and promotions. manager of the Animal Humane Society.
The humane society allowed other people to see the dogs at the event in the hope that some of them would find a new home forever.
“She’s our rental dog, we have puppies here like Winona that are pretty quiet, and she does it in environments like this. And what you can do is come and hire them for an hour or part of an hour, and they go out. “of the shelter,” Hatch said.
A woman does the every year for this occasion from Las Cruces.
“I came here a year ago, a friend told me, I love it and I’ve been doing it every year since,” said Yvette Hassell, a saleswoman.
Yvette loves to make jackets of all sizes for her four-legged friends.
“I love dogs, I love dogs. I’ve sewn for people, for humans and everything, but I love dogs and their owners, they’re just great,” Hassell said.
This is the first year that Doggie Dash and Dawdle has been held since 2019 due to COVID, and there were new dogs and human faces.
“Honestly, I love the community, I think it’s super cute when other people take their dogs out in public and all because they’re such a big component of our lives,” said one newcomer.
Some new puppies went out on Sunday to get used to being sociable too.
“We’re just staying at socializing and it’s stressful for any of us,” said one newcomer.
And for the first time since COVID, the humanitarian society saw participation.
“We’re looking at another 1,500 people to sign up and we have other people with dogs, we have that many dogs here this year, so we were pleasantly surprised by the result,” Hatch said.
