Doctors bring aid to Tibet’s fight against COVID

More than 5,800 medical staff have been sent from 18 provincial regions to the Tibet Autonomous Region to combat the recent COVID-19 outbreak, the National Health Commission said on Thursday.

Li Dachuan, a commission official, said the commission and the Bureau of Disease Prevention and Control immediately sent groups to consult on epidemic control and medical treatment in the region.

The lack of medical resources in Tibet has a greater challenge given the immediate increase in cases, he shared.

Working groups were also sent to the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region to help set up quarantine centers and makeshift hospitals, and to ensure that all patients receive initial treatment and that all imaginable cases and close contacts are quarantined on time. he said at a press conference.

Since 2015, the central government has provided assistance to the two regions, boosting their medical capabilities, laying solid foundations for their fight against the epidemic, he said.

Based on Tibet’s request, provincial regions have also sent a lot of resources and medical devices to the region, Li said.
