A volunteer from the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine trial in Brazil was reported to have died.
According to Bloomberg, the player had won the company’s vaccine, however it is known how they died.
Brazilian media outlet Globo reported that the volunteer was a 28-year-old doctor from Rio de Janeiro who worked as a frontline employee of COVID-19.
Reuters reported that Anvisa, Brazil’s National Health Surveillance Agency, said the trial would continue but provided additional details.
Following the news, AstraZeneca’s shares fell by about 1%, CNBC reported.
AstraZeneca’s trial has been suspended since 8 September after an unexplained illness gave the impression to a patient in the UK.
According to Reuters, AstraZeneca plans to resume his trial this week.
