Did Poland’s Robert Lewandowski win the Ballon d’Or?

ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI will be one of the most important players of this generation.

The foreigner from Poland has been one of European football’s most prolific goalscorers over the past 12 years, joining Borussia Dortmund in 2010, where he scored 103 goals in 187 appearances.

Joining league rivals Bayern Munich, Lewandowski established himself as one of the most important players of his generation, scoring 344 goals in 375 games in Munich.

However, this summer saw the end of his time in the Bundesliga when Lewandowski sought a new challenge, joining Barcelona in La Liga.

Last season, Lewandowski finished moment in the Ballon d’Or, with Lionel Messi winning his award ahead of the Polish star.

It’s the closest Lewandowski came to winning the award.

However, he was strongly inclined to win the Ballon d’Or in 2020, but the rite was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic and a winner was never named.

Despite being snubbed by the Ballon d’Or, Lewandowski has been recognized through FIFA as he has been awarded the ‘Best Player’ award in consecutive seasons, and the rite took place in January this year.

Lewandowski has expressed his opinion on not winning the Ballon d’Or, saying he would win the FIFA award.

“Lately I’ve been thinking about those two awards: the FIFA player and the Ballon d’Or,” he said.

“I came to the conclusion that the FIFA award is more important. Only bloodhounds vote on the latter, there is no transparent verification.

Lewandowski will win the Ballon d’Or in his career now, with Karim Benzema obviously the favourite for the 2022 award.
