Santo Domingo – Between January and September, the country’s main trauma centres jointly recorded 20,469 road accidents, a figure of more than 8. 5% than in 2019, when 18,862 people with car accident injuries entered these centres.
On Tuesday, Ney Arias Lora Hospital Director Julio Landron alerted the government to an increase in traffic injuries recorded in the run-up to curfew.
This indicates that, despite COVID-19 and the restriction of curfew on mobility, road trauma has not been controlled in the country.
According to World Health Organization (WHO) statistics, the Dominican Republic currently ranks among the 182 Member States of the United Nations with the number of deaths from road traffic accidents relative to its population.
