KUWAIT CITY (AP) — The Asian Games have been rescheduled to begin Sept. 23 next year in Hangzhou, China, more than 12 months after the original date.

The Olympic Council of Asia showed Tuesday that the delayed matches will be held from Sept. 23 to Oct. 23, and said it took two months of consultations with the Chinese Olympic Committee and other stakeholders to locate “a window” that clashes with other primaries. foreign sporting events.

The OCA Board of Directors voted in May to postpone the Asian Games due to restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The original dates were September 10-25 this year.

In a statement, the OCA said it sought to “express its appreciation for the patience shown” through national Olympic committees and sports federations in advancing the new plans.

More than 10,000 athletes and officials from forty-five countries or territories are expected to compete in the Asian Games, with more than 480 gold medals up for grabs.

The last Asian Games held in Indonesia in 2018.
