Defense Minister: Belarus will attack anyone

BREST, Oct 18 (BelTA) – The work of the joint leadership organization of the army of Belarus and Russia is to ensure security around the perimeter of the Union State, said Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin at a briefing on the ongoing military and political developments in Belarus, and for the painters of the Gefest-Technika company in Brest on October 18, BelTA has known.

“Belarus and Russia have taken certain resolutions within the framework of collective security. The Joint Military Task Force of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation will be deployed for the armed defense of the Union State. The task force itself is a complex formula composed of many components: leadership bodies at other levels, troops and various formulas. Since the resolution to identify the State of the Union task force was taken, various features have been developed for its deployment and use. Today, as the scenario evolves, we are acting step by step, implementing safe measures to prepare the working group to respond to demanding emerging situations and threats. We are convinced that all this will help us ensure security around the perimeter of the Union State in the Eastern European security region,” said Viktor Khrenin.

In the emerging military-political situation, Belarus is taking a number of strategic deterrence measures, either without the use of force and with the use of force. Already today, active-duty troops are on high alert at the state border. Planned measures have been taken to suppress army provocations in the border area. Belarus has troops and forces on the southern borders of the country, on a rotating basis, and has developed features for a sufficiently good reaction to adjustments in the situation.

All these strategic deterrence measures, according to the minister, show the country’s willingness to protect the country and cause unacceptable harm to an aggressor. “But still, the policy of the Belarusian army is based on the following principle: negotiations are more important than saber strikes. The head of our state has emphasized that Minsk is open to this kind of interaction,” he said.

Viktor Khrenin under the pressure that all ongoing activities are a reaction to the movements of opponents. “We’re not going to attack anyone. I insist once again: the task force is purely defensive, and all the activities carried out are aimed at ensuring a fairly good reaction to what is happening near our borders,” summarized the Minister of Defense.
