WASHINGTON (Reuters) – More than two dozen members of the U. S. House and Senate, 17 Republicans and nine Democrats tested positive or presumed to have COVID-19, and Rep. Don Young was last on Thursday.
Here’s a look at the lawmakers affected by the virus:
REPRESENTATIVE DON YOUNG
The 87-year-old Republican in Congress announced Thursday that he had become inflamed with the coronavirus. “Say positive for COVID-19. I feel strong, stick to protocols, paint from my home in Alaska and ask for privacy right now. God bless Alaska,” the Alaska Republican wrote on Twitter.
REPRESENTATIVE DREW FERGUSON
Ferguson, 53, a Republican from Georgia, announced on October 30 that he was tested for COVID-19 after experiencing mild symptoms.
REPRESENTATIVE BILL HUIZENGA
Huizenga, a 51-year-old Michigan Republican, announced on October 19 that he had tested positive for coronavirus and said he had been fasting before a time he planned to attend with Vice President Mike Pence.
REP MIKE BOST
Bost, 5nine, a Republican representing a southern Illinois district, said on October 9 that he had tested positive and had contacted the electorate he had met in recent days, and that his wife also fell ill with coronavirus.
CARBAJAL HEALTH REPRESENTATIVE
“Despite all the precautions taken – adding masked dress, social remoteness and hand washing – I knew I had been exposed to a user who had tested positive for COVID-19,” Carbajal wrote on Twitter on October 5. A year-old California Democrat tested positive.
SENATOR RON JOHNSON
The 65-year-old Wisconsin Republican tested positive in early October after returning to Washington last September and coming into contact with a user inflamed by the virus, his spokeswoman said.
SENATOR MIKE LEE
The 49-year-old Utah Republican announced in October that he had tested positive within hours of Republican President Donald Trump’s new positive control bomb. SENATOR THOM TILLIS
Tillis, 60, from North Carolina, also attended the occasion at the White House where Barrett performed. He announced that he tested positive on October 2, the same day Lee.
REP JAHANA HAYES
Hayes, 47, a Connecticut Democrat, tested positive for COVID-19 and planned to quarantine her for 14 days, she said Sept. 20, adding that she was asymptomatic with the exception of respiratory problems, which were being monitored.
SENATOR BILL CASSIDY
Cassidy, 63, a Louisiana Republican, made the decision to quarantine for 14 days and touch those he might have had contact with after giving positive, according to a statement released in August.
“I strictly adhere to the direction of our medical experts and strongly inspire others to do the same,” said the senator, himself a physician.
REPRESENTATIVE RODNEY DAVIS
Davis, 50, an Illinois Republican, said in August that he was tested for the coronavirus after having a fever.
REPRESENTATIVE DAN MEUSER
Meuser, a 56-year-old Pennsylvania Republican, announced on August 22 that he had tested positive and that a vote in the House would be lost on increased investment for the US post office. But it’s not the first time
REPRESENTATIVE RAUL GRIJALVA
Grijalva, a 72-year-old Arizona Democrat, tested positive and walked away, he said in August. Grijalva expressed frustration at the reluctance of some Republican lawmakers to wear masks, possibly slowing the spread of the coronavirus.
LOUIE GOHMERT REPRESENTATIVE
The 67-year-old Republican from Texas said in July that he was pre-screened at the White House but had no symptoms.
“It’s ironic, because many other people have made a big challenge by not wearing many masks. But in the last two weeks, I’ve worn one more mask than I’ve worn in the last four months.
REPRESENTATIVE MORGAN GRIFFITH
The 62-year-old Virginia Republican, a member of the conservative group Freedom Caucus, said in mid-July that he had tested positive, but had no significant symptoms.
REPRESENTATIVE TOM RICE
The 63-year-old South Carolina Republican said in mid-June that he, his wife and son had taken the test and were “on their way to recovery. “
SENATOR TIM KAINE
The 62-year-old Virginia Democrat and former vice presidential candidate said in May that he and his wife had tested for antibodies to the coronavirus.
SENATOR CASEY BOB
Casey, 60, a Pennsylvania Democrat, also conducted antibody tests against the coronavirus in May.
REPRESENTATIVE NEAL DUNN
The Florida Republican, a 67-year-old surgeon, said in April that he went to the emergency room after feeling good and then tested positive.
REP JOE CUNNINGHAM
A South Carolina Democrat, Cunningham, 38, said in March that he had positive results.
REP MIKE KELLY
Kelly, 72, a Pennsylvania Republican, tested positive in March at a driving control site and told an interviewer that it took him about a month and that he had lost 14 kg (30 pounds).
SENATOR RAND PAUL
The 57-year-old Kentucky Republican said in March that he tested positively and quarantined, but that he felt good. After returning to work, Paul still didn’t dress in a mask and said it because he thought he was immune.
REPRESENTATIVE MARIO DIAZ-BALART
The 59-year-old Florida Republican tested positive in March and the symptoms “almost hit me like a ton of bricks. “Once his fitness improved, Diaz-Balart said he would participate in a plasma donation program to others with severe cases.
REPRESENTATIVE BEN MCADAMS
The Utah Democrat hit the virus in March, was hospitalized and needed oxygen. He later warned others to take the virus seriously: “I’m young, I’m 45, I’m healthy, I exercise every day and I realized,” he told ABC.
REPRESENTATIVE NYDIA VELAZQUEZ
Velázquez, 67, a New York Democrat, said in March that he had been diagnosed with an alleged case of coronavirus, that he had not been tested.
REPRESENTATIVE SETH MOULTON
The 41-year-old Massachusetts Democrat said in March that he and his wife were 40 years old after experiencing coronavirus-like symptoms, and the congressman said they did qualify for testing.
