Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA), in partnership with Education Above All (EAA), is donating 27 of the modular tents designed for this year’s FIFA World Cup to refugee communities in Syria, Turkey and Yemen. The structures will be used as clinics and transitional shelters. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is running 15 tents for ten-five clinics in Yemen and Turkey. The Qatar Red Crescent is bringing the remaining tents to Syria to house them.
Three ZHA-EAA stores are being used in Pakistan and Turkey for many Pakistani and Syrian refugee children.
“We have a like-minded spouse at Education Above All who is committed to making an investment in cutting-edge design to gain advantages from disadvantaged and vulnerable communities,” Gerry Cruz, project architect Zaha Hadid Architects, said in a press release. “Together we have developed a robust, cost-effective and lightweight modular architectural formula with a fabric wrap to build structures that can be adapted in many variants to meet the situations and lives of displaced and displaced youth on the move. We hope those newly donated tents will bring safety, learning and fun to thousands of people in Yemen, Syria and Turkey.
Work will focus on the tower roof, repairing a leaky interior, upgrading plumbing and repairing stucco soffits, among other repairs. Rotating dining room was renovated in 2006.
