The total number of cases of new coronavirus infections increased to 28.36,925, while the number of deaths rose to 53866 with 977 new deaths reported in a day, according to updated knowledge at 8:00 a.m.

Of the 977 new deaths, 346 are from Maharashtra, 126 from Karnataka, 116 from Tamil Nadu, 86 from Andhra Pradesh, 53 from Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, 23 from Punjab, 18 from Madhya Pradesh, 17 from Gujarat, 15 from Jharkhand, 14 from Uttarakhand, 12 from Rajasthan and 11 from Bihar and Jammu and Kashmir.
Ten deaths were reported in Assam, Haryana, Odisha and Telangana, nine in Delhi, 8 in Goa, seven in Kerala, six in Pondicherry, 3 in Chhattisgarh, while Sikkim, Chandigarh and Ladakh recorded a death.

Out of a total of 53866 deaths, Maharashtra reported one of 21033, followed by 6123 in Tamil Nadu, 4327 in Karnataka, 4235 in Delhi, 2906 in Andhra Pradesh, 2837 in Gujarat, 2638 in Uttar Pradesh, 2581 in West Bengal and 1159 in West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh.
So far, another 921 people have died of COVID-19 in Punjab, 910 in Rajasthan, 729 in Telangana, 572 in Jammu and Kashmir, 567 in Haryana, 487 in Bihar, 372 in Odisha, 277 in Jharkhand, 213 in Assam, 182 in Kerala and 178 in Uttahandrak.
Chhattisgarh recorded 161 deaths, Pondicherry 129, Goa 124, Tripura 65, Chandigarh 31, Andaman Islands and Nicobar 30, Himachal Pradesh 19, Manipur and Ladakh 18 each, Nagaland eight, Meghalaya six, Arunachal Pradesh five, Sikkim 3 and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu two.
