Crete makes a good impression even though Covid-19 has an effect on arrivals

The Greek island of Crete has controlled to convince travelers despite the current Covid-19 crisis and a dramatic drop in arrivals, with 8 in 10 reporting satisfactory fitness protocols, according to a recently published study.

In particular, 130,000 visitors visited Crete at La Canaée Airport from January to August, 85% less compared to the same time last year, according to the knowledge of Fraport Greece, the airport control company.

According to the Tourism Observatory of Western Crete, the Scandinavian countries, classic markets of Western Crete, recorded a minimum of 94%.

Arrivals from the UK (21. 5%), Poland (16. 4%), Germany (11. 9%), Denmark (9. 5%) France (7. 5%) accounted for part of the overall remaining head with 22% up to last year.

For the first time, Poland has so far advanced as a market of origin for Crete, accounting for 16% of all arrivals, and Norwegians and Swedes accounted for 3% compared to 13% last year.

By contrast, classic emitting markets in western Crete fell: Finland fell by 3. 1%, Sweden 2. 8% and Norway 2. 7%.

They also found an increase in the number of travelers over the age of 30 representing 31% of arrivals and a decrease in the number of 55 visitors.

Of those surveyed, 67% said they had stayed in hotels, 23% in apartments and rooms and 7. 5% in a villa.

Meanwhile, Heraklion airport gained a total of 543,000 arrivals, 78% less than at the same time last year, according to the knowledge of the aviation authority for the January-August 2020 era.

Most visitors arrived from Germany, the United Kingdom, France and Russia, which accounted for 60% of total arrivals during the eight-month period.

The main destinations of foreign travelers to Crete this year were Elafonissos, Ballos and Falasarna, and the number of visits to museums, archaeological sites and churches/monasteries recorded a decrease.
