COVID’s first-death family in Israel sues state and nursing home for negligence

It was only after the deaths of more than a hundred elderly people across the country as a result of COVID-19 that the Ministry of Health “realized that the [elderly] sector needed to be treated immediately, intensively and professionally,” the lawyers wrote.

The lawsuit also alleges that unlike other nursing homes, who have taken steps to prevent the spread of the virus among their citizens and workers even before receiving orders from the Ministry of Health, Nofim Tower has done nothing.

Neither the Ministry of Health nor Nofim Tower responded to requests for comment.

At the height of the first wave of the epidemic, the coronavirus spread to the country’s nursing homes, whose citizens at one time accounted for about one-third of the national death toll.
