The World Health Organization’s Covid-19 scoreboard showed Monday that a new one-day record had been reached with 307,930 coronavirus samples.
WHO’s full figures for Sunday show that 307,930 cases were shown to the UN fitness firm that day, 19,870 more than Saturday’s count.
Confirmed instances only exceeded 300,000 once before, while on September 6, 306,857 were registered, AFP reports.
According to WHO figures, there have been more than 28,870,000 cases of respiratory diseases, while more than 921,800 others have lost their lives, adding 5,537 on Sunday.
“Lives and livelihoods have been lost, the global economy is in recession and social and political flaws have been exposed,” WHO leader Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said Monday in a video link to the organization’s European regional committee.
“There’s no way we’re out of danger. The average daily number of cases in the region is now higher than the first peak in March,” he said, setting the record for 48,921 cases shown in Europe on Sunday.
A total of 132,464 were shown Sunday in the WHO Americas region, followed by 101,119 in Southeast Asia.
There were also 14,827 cases in the Mediterranean, 5,958 in the western Pacific and 4,641 in Africa.

Officials in southern Germany are imposing heavy fines on a 26-year-old American woman related to a coronavirus case organization at the Alpine hotel in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, adding at a hotel that houses US military personnel.
