Filipinos in Malaysia are urged to take precautions as the country is experiencing a slight increase in cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
In a statement dated Dec. 20, the Philippine Embassy in Malaysia said there was a sudden surge in COVID-19 cases, but that government fitness services were able to take care of any build-up and Malaysia was in a position to mobilize other services if needed. .
“In view of the rise of COVID cases in Malaysia, Filipinos in Malaysia are advised to take precautionary measures to protect themselves and others from COVID, such as social distancing, practicing good hygiene, wearing masks indoors or at crowded spaces and getting booster shots, especially for those in the high-risk categories,” it said.
The embassy said there are no reports of new variants in the country except for the existing Omicron and its sub-variants.
“The main Omicron subvariants in Malaysia are XBB. 1. 16, XBB. 1. 5 and EG. 5. 5, which are known to be highly transmissible but do not cause severe cases,” he notes.
This reminded Filipinos that the Malaysian government also provides booster shots for everyone and that appointments can be scheduled through the MySejahtera app or they can simply go to any gym.
Between December 3 and December, Malaysia’s Ministry of Health recorded more than 33,000 cases of COVID-19.
