Covid vaccine effects: Did the Centre forget its own red flags?

Mumbai: The focus is now on preventive and curative measures, basically “life-saving vaccines,” as the global panic over the COVID-19 pandemic fades. It has already extinguished nearly 69 lakhs (6. 9 million) lives worldwide.

In mid-January 2021, a savior called the COVID-19 vaccine evolved in India regardlessly through two companies: “Covaxin” of state-owned Bharat Biotech Ltd (BBL) and the Serum Institute of India (SII) itself. “Covishield” – and approved for “restricted emergency use” to prevent the fatal run of the coronavirus.

Just 4 months later, in mid-May 2021, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare raised red flags about Covaxin and Covishield that were caught up in millions of unsuspecting compatriots, first of all for free.

In a statement to all states, the MoHFW had discussed adverse events after vaccination (AEFI) and an investigation of AEFI cases through the AEFI National Committee for STT (Thrombosis with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome, which is blood clots in the veins).

The MoHFW categorically stated that “there is a very small but definite risk” of thromboembolic events following Covishield (IBS) injections, however, Covaxin (BBL) poses such a prospective risk.

In a kind of relief, the MoHFW added that the “risk” is only “0. 61/million doses” compared to 4/million in the UK or 10/million in Germany.

The Center has also prepared two separate notices: one detailing the diagnosis and treatment of post-vaccination doses of TTS for gyms and workers, and the other for beneficiaries to encourage them to report those side effects and seek remedy.

Activists such as Pune businessman Prafful Sarda said that when all this became known, “why did the government turn the country into a guinea pig to increase the profits of vaccine manufacturers?”

He said many cases are being recorded in other countries as increasingly severe adverse events from vaccines are highlighted and many deaths of other perfectly healthy people are now attributed to vaccination.

The chairman of the Nagpur-based Council for the Protection of Rights (CPR), lawyer Vinod Tiwari, said vaccines were only allowed for “emergency use”, a mass vaccination programme was introduced when other people panicked.

“This has been made indirectly obligatory by denying other people the right to travel by car, taxi, train, plane, interstate or international, prohibiting access to as many public places or workplaces as possible, thus forcing them to be beaten even against their will. Now is the time to consult all governments, including India’s, on their ill-conceived actions,” Tiwari said.

Incidentally, in March 2023, the ICMR presented a study on the alarming “sudden deaths from stroke” of many people, adding young people, and their possible link to vaccines. His report is expected shortly.

Tiwari and Sarda demanded that “the courts will have to intervene suo moto in this public case, identify those guilty of imposing vaccination in the country and sanction them and compensate those affected in accordance with current legislation. “

Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, tens of millions of nervous people flocked to vaccination centers for a “protective bite,” unconcerned about its potential short- or long-term effects/side effects.

In all honesty, the center’s recommendation came months after BBL and IBS published their own full list of side effects, before the actual vaccine rollout, but, of course, few bothered to approve them.

However, the BBL has obviously stated that “the clinical efficacy of Covaxin is not yet established and is under investigation and serious or unforeseen side effects are possible,” while emphasizing the need to adhere to all other precautions, as the vaccine is still under study. . proven

The IBS said that “the duration of coverage against COVID-19 disease is currently unknown” and that serious and unforeseen side effects could occur, as the vaccine is still in clinical trials.

In the case of AEFIs, any of the companies gave the impression of absolving themselves of any duty and asked other people to rush to the nearest hospital, call the healthcare provider/vaccinator, doctor, etc. for any disorder after the bites.

COVAX side effects indexed through the BBL: Pain/swelling/redness/itching at the injection site, arm stiffness, weakness in the injection arm, headache, body aches, fever, malaise, weakness, rash, nausea/vomiting, or severe allergic reactions with symptoms such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the face and throat, immediate heartbeat, rashes all over the body, dizziness and weakness.
