COVID, flu sites expand as Cape Fear sees improvement to top point of spread

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — According to the CDC, COVID grades are the highest in many parts of the county.

Novant Health Never Hanover Regional Medical Center is expanding its COVID-19 and flu sites.

The news comes as many areas, including New Hanover County, enjoy a significant increase in respiratory illness cases after the holidays.

A Novant spokesperson said expanding testing sites would reduce the number of others going to emergency rooms to request COVID-19 and flu testing.

They inspire citizens to take credit for their six sites in New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender counties.

“We need to remind our network that COVID-19 is not over, so after the holiday season and right now we are seeing an increase in respiratory illness,” said Zachary Cockerham, director of emergency facilities at Novant Health NHRMC. “So we remind our network to use preventative measures. “
