SAO PAULO – COVID-19 cases in the Americas increased about 14% last week from last week, with 1. 3 million new cases and 4158 new deaths reported, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) announced Wednesday.
South America was the hardest hit, with a 32. 8% increase in the COVID death rate compared to last week, according to PAHO Director Dr. Susan S. Carissa Etienne.
“In South America, there has been a significant buildup in the emergence of COVID-19, with nearly a portion of one million new COVID-19 cases reported in the past week, an increase of 24. 6% over the past week,” Etienne said. he said at a press conference.
The largest accumulation of infections reported in Bolivia followed through Peru.
North America saw a 7. 7 percent increase from last week, despite a decline in cases in Canada, while the United States and Mexico are moving in the opposite direction, PAHO said.
