The prospect of governments simply investing in infrastructure, adding road spending, to bring their economies to life in the wake of the Covid-19 crisis gives appliance suppliers some hope of long-term demand. However, Alexander Greschner, sales manager of Wacker Neuson, said mixed scenario.
“The roads themselves are something you can’t help but invest in; you have to rebuild, you have to do them, you have to keep them in shape,” Greschner says.
He adds: “In the countries of Central and Northern Europe, I think there would possibly be a small delay, however, we know from many discussions with consumers over the last few weeks that the pipe for the road structure does not look so bad. Road projects are planned well in advance.
However, there are regional variations; “We continue to see that southern European countries, i. e. Spain and Italy, are a little slower in their initiatives,” Greschner says, adding that Spain has made a lot of road structure over the past decade that its road networks are of a higher standard. the norm.
Italy, he says, continues to count on Europeans because local government lacks monetary leverage; “And this partly reflects the scenario in Central and Eastern Europe, where many countries still have European funding one way or another,” Greschner says.
Meanwhile, outside Europe, China is strengthening, he says; “It was like turning off and then turning on a switch; with rapid effect, China returned to the level and projects resumed. Here, we that the government will do everything it can to catch up because it has its five-year plan, with or without Crown.
Speaking of South America, however, Greschner says: “This is probably one of the most deceptive scenarios in the world right now, because there we already had political disorders at the end of last year, now followed by Covid. Obviously, the economic scenario”. there’s dramatic. For example, markets such as Brazil, Peru and Chile lately have large reference marks. »
Meanwhile, Greschner expects there to be a maximum concentration on North American roads, where, he says, “there’s a lot of government stimulus, but it’s even more on the client side. “
Greschner’s full interview will be published in the RoadWorks segment of the upcoming September IRN factor.
