COVID-19: Women and young people affected by pandemic – Ministry

Ms. Ifeoma Anagbogu, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Women’s Affairs (FMWA), said that women and young people were most affected by the confinement caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Anagbogu said this at the technical consultation of the assembly of the National Virtual Council for Women’s Affairs on Wednesday in Abuja.

The theme of the assembly is: “Sexist violence: a shadow in a pandemic and an end”.

The Permanent Secretary noted that the issue is relevant, given the devastating COVID-19 pandemic, which had posed a major risk to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.

He said that women and young people are the most affected by the pandemic due to the blocking of the economy and social activities aimed at reducing the spread of the virus.
